Staff exchanges

Kwame - a fellow at Plymouth Marine Laboratory

The EAMNet Framework 7 project developed the network that has enabled the exchange of personnel between African and European institutes.  During the three years of the funding the EAMNet project was proud to support 16 African scientists to participate in fellowship placements at centres of excellence in Africa and Europe.  This programme promoted training and capacity building in Africa in support of GOOS-Africa and “GMES and Africa”.

Although formal funding has now ceased, there has been continued exchanges of personnel facilitated by the network, many of which have been funded as part of the POGO-SCOR Visiting Fellowships programme.

The most recent fellowship was awarded was to Dr Ahon Jean-Baptise Kassi from CURAT in the Ivory Coast.  He visited Plymouth Marine Laboratory in the UK to study the characterization and monitoring of upwelling areas in Ivorian waters for fishery valorisation using remote sensing data.

The fellowship has established the foundation for future collaborations between CURAT and PML based on common research interests on the study of climate impact on marine ecosystem resources. The results of the project are expected to contribute to improve fishery activities and support the development of economy and welfare of West African countries.

Details of previous fellows can be found on the Partners and network page.

The EAMNet project was partially funded by the European Commission Framework 7 Programme under Space Call SPA.2009.3.2.01 International Cooperation
