About the network
EAMNet is a collaborative network linking Earth Observation (EO) information providers, user networks and centres of excellence in Europe and Africa in the area of coastal and marine observations to help support sustainable development in Africa.
An initial three year project, part-funded by the European Commission Framework 7 programme, established the fundamental structure of the network and facilitated the implementation of training and infrastructure development.
Although funding from Framework 7 has now ceased the network is still active and continues to provide high quality satellite data products to Africa, complementing European initiatives with the Copernicus (formerly GMES) programme. The legacy of the project continues to grow with more and more African scientists trained in EO and remote sensing through postgraduate courses at least three African universities and through free self-learning on-line materials.
The network continues to support and inform projects to improve environmental monitoring capabilities in Africa and maintains the network by disseminating news and information to its partners. Thus maintaining the momentum the project has achieved and ensuring that the network is ready to respond to future developments and opportunities.
EAMNet continues to seek opportunities and funding to widen its network and provide further training, fellowships and infrastructure development in order to continue to build on the capacity and capabilities of its partners as well as future collaborators.
